Have a close look at all the stops below as a lot of them require bookings in advance. We have attached all their contact details for you. We always recommend pre booking lunch. We would also recommend pre booking all tastings or lunch for the wineries. 

Groups of 8 or more are welcome on our tours but please call us on 0800 6937 2273 and let us know which wineries or venues you have booked. This is due to logistics and numbers in our buses. We advise larger groups to pre book tastings in order to avoid disappointment.

 

  1. Christchurch Gondola (03 384 0310)

Open: 10am-4pm DAILY. Christchurch Gondola, last ride down 60min after closing.

 

Offers stunning 360-degree views of the city, Lyttelton Harbour and beyond from the summit station situated atop the Port Hills. See the snow-capped Southern Alps, sprawling Canterbury Plains and the sparkling waters of Pegasus Bay and the Pacific Ocean. Explore the many walking tracks amid fresh mountain air, learn about the history of the area on a Christchurch Discovery Ride ride (free with your Christchurch Gondola ticket) and indulge in a spot of shopping at the Shop at the Top gift store. Sit back and relax with a snack from the Red Rock Cafe and take in the spectacular views.

Ferrymead Heritage Park features an Edwardian township complete with church, school house, bakery, jail, print workshop, Edwardian cottages, railway station and playground.

There are a fascinating array of museum and heritage collections some of which are the largest in the southern hemisphere for young and old including; model railway, aeronautical, fire engines, trains, rural implements and tractors.

Trams run on weekends, public holidays and school holidays.

– A steam train runs on the second Sunday of each month (with trains running most Sundays over the Christmas/January period).

The Tannery is a boutique retail destination located on an historic industrial site from the 19th century where Victorian style architecture now houses specialist shops, bars and restaurants.

7. Canterbury Earthquake National Memorial

Open 24 hours

The Canterbury Earthquake National Memorial is the Crown’s official memorial for those killed or seriously injured in the 22 February 2011 Christchurch earthquake. It is located on both sides of the Avon River downstream from the Montreal Street bridge.

Christs College is a unique combination of heritage buildings alongside state-of-the-art modern facilities that are at the cutting edge of technological excellence. Big School – our library – was built in 1863. It is the oldest educational building still in use in New Zealand.

9b. Punting on Avon (03 366 0337)

Punting on Avon, one of the best things to do in Christchurch is to relax on board an informative punt ride and see the city from a different perspective. Enjoy gliding through the evolving central city as your classically attired punter poles you quietly along the river on this eco-friendly activity perfect for all ages. Aikmans Bar & Eatery, with our expansive sun drenched courtyard and heated louvered area, sit back, relax and enjoy whatever the weather. Come for lunch and dinner, or a snack for those sharing moments. We have a comprehensive selection of beers, wines and spirits, as well as non-alcoholic beverages and barista made coffee. Plus we make an exceptional cocktail.

Nestled just 20m off Papanui Rd, Sprig & Fern, the #bestlittlelocal has 18 tap beers and ciders plus a fantastic range of wines, gins and other spirits. Kitchen is open all day serving great pizza’s, burgers and other great pub grub.

Mona Vale is a delightful place to relax in peaceful surroundings. Enjoy a garden of mature trees, sloping lawns and herbaceous borders, a large rose garden, irises and a water lily pond. The sheltered setting also showcases a number of impressive buildings of regional historic significance.

Mona Vale’s cafe, located inside the main homestead, is open for coffee and cake, and devonshire teas throughout the year.

 

13. Straight 8 Estate (027 722 8416)

At Straight 8 Estate, we produce an award winning range of single vineyard wines, ROSE – RIESLINGS – CHARDONNAY – PINOT NOIR that express our terroir and flavors, giving you great wines that will cellar well.

We love receiving visitors at our winery, whether you’re a local, traveller or wine connoisseur! We like to keep it casual and relaxed, and usually Bella the vineyard dog won’t be far away to greet you, give you the welcoming sniff and check you out for food.

 

14. Melton Estate Winery (03 347 4968)

Open: Mon-Wed (closed),  Open Thurs-Sun 10am-5pm

Sample local wines that include: Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Riesling, Chardonnay, Rosé, Sauvignon Blanc, and the acclaimed Sparkling Riesling known as “Summer Love”. The popular restaurant serves great food that is matched to these handcrafted boutique wines.

At Melton Estate Winery, the Winery Restaurant and Cellar Door is open all year on Thursday to Sunday from 10am to 5pm,

Langdale Café and Restaurant offers you a casual country dining experience either in our attractive restaurant or outside in our sheltered garden. Menus reflect local seasonal produce with a Mediterranean influence.  Coffee, light snacks, brunch and full meals are available complemented by a local wine selection.
